Students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the history, philosophy, trends, ethical, and legal issues in school counseling and educational systems
- Articulate, model, and advocate for the appropriate role the school counselor
- Develop and utilize needs assessment instruments to plan a comprehensive school counseling program
- Design, implement, manage, and evaluate comprehensive school counseling programs that address academic, career, and personal/social needs of students
- Implement theoretical, evidence-based counseling interventions for students in the K-12 environment
- Demonstrate an understanding of procedures for potential crises, emergencies, and disasters that impact students in the K-12 environment
- Understand and identify the multicultural issues in the K-12 environment and advocate for the success of all children
- Work with parents, guardians, and families to promote the academic, career, and personal/social development of students
- Select assessment instruments and analyze data to effectively evaluate students' academic, career, and personal/social development as well as identify potential barriers to students' academic success
- Understand and demonstrate strategies to promote, develop, and enhance effective teamwork within the school and community
- Understand the important role of the school counselor as a system change agent in the K-12 environment
- Plan and present school counseling related programs for parents and teachers
- Demonstrate the professional knowledge, skills, and practices necessary to promote the academic, career, and personal/social development of all K-12 students
