WPE Content
The WPE is constructed as essay questions by the program faculty in counseling and scored by the departmental faculty serving on the doctoral committee. The questions for the foundation and specialty area are available for review in the departmental office and may be obtained from the records secretary. Students are expected to write exemplary answers to questions, since they will be studying them in advance of the examination. Students are expected to begin to study for the comprehensive examination at least 3 months prior to taking the examination. Successful students generally begin 6 months prior to the examination. Students are allotted two days to answer the WPE essay questions. All doctoral students are required to type or word process their answers. Students who are unable to type must submit to the department the hand written original of the comprehensives. A photocopy may be used to acquire the services of a typist to transcribe the handwritten copy. The typed text will be checked against the original handwritten copy to determine if any changes have been made to the answers outside the examination setting.
