The oral preliminary examination (OPE) is scheduled immediately following notification by the major professor of the passage of the WPE. The OPE will be conducted by the doctoral committee with each member giving questions. The minor professor asks questions in the minor area.
You will be expected to demonstrate thorough familiarity with literature germane to your emphasis area, understanding of the relationships among the various areas of, educational psychology and other related fields, general knowledge and training including the use of oral English, and the ability to apply, synthesize, and evaluate knowledge gained in relation to problems encountered in the doctoral program. To perform well on the OPE, you will need to be able to think quickly, orally express ideas and thoughts fluently and competently, and express opinions in a well-articulated, logical, and comprehensive manner.
